Despite this weather .... 2015 is off to a GREAT START!  Nuff Said!

Dad's Winter Adventure
               Family Ski Outing - Update
Wachusett Mountain Feb 28th

Who is sick of the snow???  Let's do something productive with it and go skiing!!!  At this rate John will be extending our ski trip calendar well into June.  Why not, with all the snow dates the kids will be in school until late July!!!

The next trip for the whole family is Feb 28th @ Wachusett and we know that this date coincides with the next Dad's Drop and Play.  But, we figured there will be some of us courageous enough to get up at 5:30 am to make the drive to ski in sub-zero temps (like the last trip pictured above) .... and there will be some of us who would prefer less onerous adventure and prefer to sleep until 8 or 8:30 and not deal.  So, you have options.

Travel - If folks want to caravan, plan on meeting at the Wayland Town Center (near Panera) and then we can all head to the mountain together.  Please plan on arriving by 6:45 for a 7:00am.

Meeting Spot on Mountain - Let's plan on having a mid-morning snack at the Bullock Lodge at 10:30am.

Group Picture - Meet at the top of the Minuteman Express Quad at 2:00 for a group picture!

Wayland Dads Ski and Ride Day - Saturday, January 31st - Update
The Summit - WDG - Sunapee - Saturday, January 31st

John Langan and the Wayland Dads organized the first Wayland Dads Ski and Ride Day trip on 1/31.

A group of 10 "50-below tuckerman - white out - white knucklers" braved single digit temperatures and conquered Mt Sunapee for a day of skiing and boarding. Pictured here at the summit, briefly without hats, seconds before getting frostbite loosing one ear, half a lip and an eyelid.  What a blast!!! The two bald guys on the right did better than the guys with hair because they each put a handful of petroleum jelly on their heads just before the picture was taken.  The guy in the front center ... not so good.  His eyes are still frozen shut.  Doctors say his eyes should definitely be UN-frozen by the next snow storm.

"We got out on the mountain like ..... early and considering the sub-zero temperatures and all ... had like ... some of the gnarliest 'tongue-pole' sticking conditions I have ever seen ... unreal!"

The Cochituate Breakfast Club - February
               Kids Breakfast with Dad
Monthly on the first and third Wednesdays

Father and Son's Wed March 4th @ 7:15am
Father and Daughters Wed March 18th @ 7:15am

This is a great Wayland tradition open to all Wayland's elementary schoolchildren and their fathers. It is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your sons or daughters and meet other dads in town.

The Father-Son breakfasts are on the first Wednesday of each month, and the Father-Daughter breakfasts are on the third Wednesday of each month. Both groups meet at 7:15 a.m. at Mel's and are held only during the school year.
The modest annual dues are $30 per family to support raffle prizes given out each breakfast, plus $13 for each father-son or father-daughter pairing (with $5 for each additional son or daughter) to cover the breakfast buffet when you attend.

Contact Jeff Baron (jeffrey.s.baron@gmail.com) with questions for Father-Daughter or Tom Cribben (tcribben@yahoo.com) with questions for Father-Son.   Hope to see you there!!

WAYS Soccer
               New

Hard for us to imagine, but Spring is just around the corner.  (It's really not but it sounds good.)

If you live in Wayland and you are interested in youth soccer, then you need to know about WAYS soccer. WAYS will be forming the intramural teams (Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2) for the upcoming season in early March and it is important for us to know how many players we will have so the teams do not have too many players.

To register go to our web site at http://www.waylandsoccer.org/ and follow the instructions for either electronic registration

"Big Shout out to the Softball League for their support of Wayland Dads!"

Wayland Dad's FitCamp
               New Stuff Coming ....

At Saturdays Drop and Play, as a group of Dad's were circling "The Commissioner" as he handed out Softball trophies, we noticed that Cj Norgaard was checking out some of the extra chins and bulging belt-lines on some of the Dads.   Although the ensuing conversation didn't slow the doughnut consumption much, we finally consented with him on the point that some of us (not all of us) could use ... a little help staying in shape this winter.   So the idea of "WDG FitCamp" was hatched over a luke warm D&D coffee and jelly donut.

What is "FitCamp?"    Cj would essentially lead us 'jelly bellies' through a general conditioning class that would incorporate our own body weight, strength training by using different apparatus that will tone the entire body, basic agility and functional drills that challenge the cardio in short burst intervals, some core conditioning followed by range of motion and flexibility cool down.

We are putting together a schedule and looking for feedback for a 1 x class per week session.  Let us know if you have a preference per the Quick Survey below.  options below and we will lock in the details for a "one month" test run.

Scheduling Options:

1. Wednesdays @ 6:30 PM        Quick Survey:  What works for you?
2. Sundays @ 6:30 PM

Other logistics information will be provided to include schedule, location and sign up information at the next Drop and Play and Newsletter.  Given all the injuries sustained by the aging Dad population now enlisted in the expanding Softball regime, running bases is a little more than 'brain' telling 'legs' to run.

So I'm assuming like ... after the 4th class or so we can all stand around, shirtless and break boards or something ....

Wayland Youth Basketball
               New

Wayland Youth Basketball (WYB) is an organization that provides programs for girls and boys in Kindergarten through grade 8. WYB's programs include the K-2 program & participation in the following 3 leagues:
1. MetroWest Basketball: A more competitive travel league in which we compete with a number of other towns in the greater MetroWest area.  We currently field boys' teams in grades 4 through 8 and girls' teams in grades 5 through 8. This year we are opening up the 5th grade team tryouts to 4th grade girls to play on the 5th grade team if they are selected. Teams typically practice twice a week with games on Sundays.

2. The Tri-Town Youth Basketball League: A recreational league formed with the towns of Wayland, Weston, Lincoln and Hanscom AFB for girls in grades 3 through 6 and boys in grades 3 through 8. Teams practice once a week with games on Saturdays.
3. Wellesley-Framingham CYO Basketball: For girls in grades 7 & 8. CYO is a recreational league associated with parishes in Wellesley (St John and St Paul) and Framingham (St Tarcisius and Marian). Teams practice once  week with games on Saturdays.
In addition, WYB also has a Saturday Morning K-2 Program  for kids in Kindergarten through 2nd grade to get them started in basketball. The focus of this program is to have fun while teaching kids some of the fundamentals of basketball.Participation in the MetroWest League is open to all children who live in Wayland and to METCO students attending Wayland Schools. In the Tri-Town League and the K-2 Program, children who do not live in Wayland but attend Wayland schools (even if not part of the METCO program) are also eligible to participate.

*    Giving moms a break!  (And scoring points)
*    Make it through winter without going stir crazy
What:  Bi-weekly Drop in Plays
