January Newsletter & Upcoming Events

It's been great to see and hear from everyone over the past month at the various events. Thanks for all the support from the Moms, Dads and kids.  As "ol man winter" kicks into high gear in the coming weeks we have lots to look forward to: ski trips, poker, sledding, cub scouts outings, breakfast club and WCPA events.

Don't let the cold keep you indoors this Saturday come to Loker and hit the gym with us. Please for this newsletter along to someone who might want to sync up with Wayland Dads.

Sincerely,

Wayland Dad's Group

Thanks for coming .... hosted by Shane Capron

26 Dads joined us for Guy's Night at The Local on January 13th.  Appetizers were provided, the Bruins won, and everyone had a great time catching up and meeting new Dads in Wayland.

John was able to talk up the ski trip and everyone mentioned that they are looking forward to the next poker night.  Special shout-out to The Local for hooking us up with a great time!

               Community Center Update
Save the Date for the Annual Town Meeting!  April 6th

Making progress but still an uphill battle!

The Board of Selectmen voted to include the article regarding the Council on Aging/Community Center in the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting.  The article will go to the Finance Committee for analysis, and both Fin Com and BOS will decide whether or not they will recommend approval of the article to town voters.  While their decisions will likely be printed in the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting, they may delay sharing their public opinion until the actual meeting in April.

As a quick recap, the article for the COA/Community Center asks town voters to approve $150K to conduct critical initial testing for the project (such as environmental and civil engineering tests) and to produce basic schematic drawings and design.  Reducing the scope of the article to $150K may help it pass at Town Meeting since many projects fail to pass the vote the first time they are presented at Town Meeting, especially when the article is too broad.  Thank you for your support and the emails you have written to the BOS!  We will keep you updated as we approach the Town Meeting in April.

Save the Date for the Annual Town Meeting!
The annual Town Meeting will start on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 pm at Wayland High School.  While these meetings often go on for several days, we are planning to rally supporters of the Community Center to turn out on the night it will be taken up at the meeting.  We will have more details once the agenda for the meeting has been set, and we hope to see you there!

Dad's Ski and Ride Day
               Dad's & Kids Ski Outing - Update
Mount Sunapee Jan 31st

Sorry for any confusion about this being a "Dads only" vs. "Dads/Kids" event.  Kids are more than welcome on this trip, we were just trying to be sensitive to the early start.  If you can get your kids out of bed, dressed, and ready to go, we're not turning anyone away!  The next trip will be for the whole family tentatively slated for Feb 28th.

We've had a tremendous response to the Ski & Ride Day!  Looks like we will have over 20 Dads heading up to Mount Sunapee with kids on January 31st!  We will meet at the Wayland Town Center (we have permission to park cars in the back lot) at 5:45am Saturday morning.

The Cochituate Breakfast Club - February
               Kids Breakfast with Dad
Monthly on the first and third Wednesdays

Father and Son's Wed Feb 4th @ 7:15am
Father and Daughters Wed Feb 18th @ 7:15am

This is a great Wayland tradition open to all Wayland's elementary schoolchildren and their fathers. It is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your sons or daughters and meet other dads in town.

The Father-Son breakfasts are on the first Wednesday of each month, and the Father-Daughter breakfasts are on the third Wednesday of each month. Both groups meet at 7:15 a.m. at Mel's and are held only during the school year.
The modest annual dues are $30 per family to support raffle prizes given out each breakfast, plus $13 for each father-son or father-daughter pairing (with $5 for each additional son or daughter) to cover the breakfast buffet when you attend.

Contact Jeff Baron (jeffrey.s.baron@gmail.com) with questions for Father-Daughter or Tom Cribben (tcribben@yahoo.com) with questions for Father-Son.   Hope to see you there!!
